A Season of Immense Gratitude

A painting of the national flag of the United States, presented during the Bullets, Bourbon and Barbeque event.

At SSV, when we get through the summer months, it goes without saying - fall is a busy, busy time. Our non-profit is blessed to have a partnership with the Huntsville SOF Network, which spearheads a collaborative event called Bullets, Bourbon and Barbeque.

In its 7th year, this event crossed a major threshold, raising an estimated $200,000 for SSV and our programs. It's not lost on SSV, that this amount of money could change the lives of any non-profit.

We are humbled and proud of the community members who took time out of their lives to truly make an investment in the men and women who serve this country. Because of this event and our other amazing donors, we are able to ensure our Veterans have a secure transition to civilian life.

TJ Wright and PeggyLee Wright, President and Vice-President, Huntsville SOF Network.

"As Veterans, we understand the sacrifices of service members and their families. The best way for our community to honor our fallen and injured is through action. By supporting our Veterans and their families, we can ensure they receive the care and support they deserve."

Navy Cycling Raising Money for SSV

Jamie Sherrard is biking down the whole state of Alabama to raise funds for SSV! His goal is $25,000!!!

Jamie had this to say:

"It means a lot to me that you are here to offer your support for a cause that I care deeply about. Still Serving Veterans supports Veterans in Need throughout North Alabama by paying a month's rent, a utility bill, a home repair, and/or providing grocery store gift cards for Veterans who are dealing with an unexpected financial crisis. Every dollar raised will go directly to support a Veteran in Need. Please help me support these Veterans who have given so much, often at a great personal cost."

Operation Green Light

This is a nationwide effort uniting counties to support military Veterans led by the National Association of Counties. In addition to lighting county buildings, residents and businesses are encouraged to participate by simply changing the exterior light bulb of their home to a green bulb. Shining a green light lets our Veterans know they are seen, appreciated, and supported. A limited number of green lights will be available at the SSV main office on Clinton Ave W closer to the start of the campaign.

In Madison County, Alabama, where SSV is headquartered - Commissioner Violet Edwards is spearheading this campaign.

"Operation Green Light is a gesture of support and appreciation for the public service of our Veterans," said Commissioner Edwards. "With hundreds of counties coming together to light everything from bridges to courthouses, we know Veterans across the country will see and feel the gratitude we all feel for their service and sacrifices."

Keeping SSV On The Map

Over the years, SSV has seen the creative and innovative ways our supporters give back to causes they care deeply about. Carpenter Technology, is one such company that stands out.

Carpenter was recently given an Impact Award on a specific project they implemented & improved. In past years, Carpenter has won and picked SSV as their non-profit of choice. This last project, Carpenter was awarded $10,000, again donating to SSV.

Consistency is everything for non-profits. When we can count on companies and individuals, be it month-to-month or year-to-year, SSV can better serve the 200,000 men and women who leave the military every year.
