We were handed a tragedy, the reverberations of which still echo in our lives today. With enormous dedication and courage, first responders rushed into burning towers and into the Pentagon. Passengers took down a commercial jet to save others. Others too bore an incredibly disproportionate share of our country’s response to the attacks. Our military, the first responders, and their families - with enormous heroism - absorbed the consequences for us all with costs we cannot imagine.
Each year, the communities of North Alabama join in remembering those who have served and continue to serve our community and our nation every day. This is our day to recognize the service of our Veterans, active duty servicemembers, members of the Guard and Reserve, and law enforcement, firefighters, and this year, in particular, the men and women of Huntsville Emergency Medical Services, Inc. (HEMSI) and other medical first-responders.
