Northrop Grumman's VERITAS Partners with SSV to Host Veteran's Hiring Event

Northrop Grumman’s VERITAS Employee Resource Group partnered with Still Serving Veterans to offer our clients the opportunity to take part in a panel and networking event, Mentoring Veterans to Hire...Beyond Just a Job.  The event was hosted at Northrop Grumman’s office on Voyager Way in Huntsville, Ala. on July 24, 2018. 

Northrop Grumman’s VERITAS which stands for Veterans, Employees and Reservists Inspired to Act and Serve, is an all-inclusive employee resource group committed to recognizing and supporting active duty and reserve service members, members of the National Guard and veterans through community outreach and networking programs aligned with company and sector wide business objectives.

During the event, representatives from Northrop Grumman, QTEC Aerospace, and Whitespace Innovations, Inc. took part in networking with job seekers, reviewing resumes and one-on-one mentoring. Additionally, staff members from each organization participated on a panel to share real world tips for job hunting, perfecting your resume and acing the interview

Panel Discussion Highlights

 

Hardest adjustment to your civilian career:

  1. Missing camaraderie.

  2. People don’t walk as fast. Back off and dial it down.

  3. People ask “why” they are told to do things.

 

Resume Tips:

  1. Cater your resume to the job requisition. Don’t litter the town with just a generic resume!

  2. Attention to detail, grammar and spelling are critical.

  3. Make skills quantifiable. For example: “I did this, and it resulted in this."

 

Interview Tips:

  1. Be prepared always and in all ways.

  2. An interview is a 2-way street. You should be interviewing your interviewer about the company and positions as well. Ask questions and take notes. 

  3. Know why you want the job and be able to clearly communicate it.

  4. Be able to explain challenging situations and how you contributed to successfully solving it without putting all the blame on others.

  5. Check your social media profiles. Just like you would put a lot of thought and effort into your resume and physical appearance on interview day, do the same with all your social media platforms. Clean, clear and concise continuity is golden

 

The VERITAS Employee Resource Group put on a fantastic evening encouraging Veterans to learn from one another’s experiences and network with other Veterans.
