SSV's Training Staff Hosts First Intensive Life Planning Workshop

Navigating the Wilderness:
An Intensive Life Planning Workshop

Unknown. Exciting. Scary. A New Adventure. All of these come to mind when a military member is about to transition into their civilian career. Discovering what you actually want to do can be a challenge.

To help our military members with their transition to civilian life and help them identify what they want to do, the training staff from Still Serving Veterans hosted "Navigating the Transition Wilderness," an intensive life planning workshop, at the Huntsville Country Club on April 19, 2018. The workshop is intended to provide Alabama Veterans with empowerment tools for critical career transitions that will enable them to secure meaningful employment.

Specifically, this intensive life planning workshop provided military members with:

  • Time to envision a meaningful, life-affirming and executable post-military career path
  • A safe and informal environment for deep personal thinking in a supportive learning environment with fellow Veterans
  • A process which honors each person’s unique personality, skills, strengths and life situations
  • The time to catch your breath, set aside the tactical concerns of the job search, and reflect on the real question, what do you want to do with your life?

The participant feedback from the workshop was excellent! Participants felt that the tools provided, helped them identify what they want to do with their life as their new “way ahead.”

Additionally, participants were able to identify some of the obstacles that they will need to overcome as they work towards their “way ahead” and those that already had a plan for their future, were able to confirm that they are in fact, moving in the right direction. Not only was this event a time to work on their transition, but it was also a time to network and get to know others going through the same changes. Knowing that you are not alone is important in the process.

If you are interested in participating in our next Navigating the Transition Wilderness… an Intensive Life Planning Workshop, please contact our office at 256-883-7035. In addition to our Intensive Life Planning Workshop, we will be offering a Job Search Tactics Workshops that will include presentations on the tools and techniques to help land and succeed in your next job.
